In addition to his work in Kazan, he had work stays in Germany and France, where he studied the effects of the anesthetic novocaine in the treatment of inflammatory processes in difficult-to-heal purulent wounds. After returning to Russia, he worked in Moscow, where he developed a system for treating these conditions, which combined cleaning wounds with novocaine and subsequent application of dressings with a thin consistency balm. The balm contained birch tar and xeroform (bismuth tribromophenolate) as its main medicinal ingredients, supplemented with castor oil and liniment - a substance that, through irritation, increases blood flow around the wound and accelerates the healing process. He achieved very good results in treating patients, but his oil balm was made famous only by his son Alexander Alexandrovich Vishnevsky, who worked as a military surgeon during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) and saved many lives thanks to the strong antibacterial effects of bandages with this balm.
