Manuka honey is obtained from the flowers of the Leptospermum scoparium plant, which grows exclusively in New Zealand.

Every spring, the plant produces white flowers that are pollinated by honey bees. The flowers of this plant have a distinctive aroma and are full of nectar - it is this that gives the honey its unique creamy texture.

How to use
Manuka honey with the MGO™ label is suitable for daily use, even over a longer period of time. It can be consumed or applied directly to the skin. It has a great taste and can be used like regular honey.

How to recognize real Manuka honey?

The numbers don't let up
Cheaper "Manuka honeys" are appearing on the market - for example in stores in England. However, the prices and labels themselves reveal that this is often a counterfeit product. The reason is simple – it is a natural honey with limited production.
In 2013, it was statistically proven that the annual harvest of Manuka honey in New Zealand is 1,700 tons, while global consumption was estimated at up to 10,000 tons.

HMF in honey
Some "beekeepers" heat Manuka honey because this increases the content MGO, the substance responsible for its unique effects. However, this destroys other valuable substances.
Whether the honey has been overheated is determined by a test for the undesirable substance HMF (hydroxymethylfurfural).
