Researcher Grigory Andriyevsky found that natural fullerenes act like adaptogens, which have a positive effect both at the cellular level and at the level of the entire human body. His research team concluded that natural fullerenes not only have the ability to reduce the concentration of free radicals that no other antioxidant has, but also have a stronger effect and their effects are longer-lasting. The researchers explain this by the fact that natural fullerenes act on a different mechanism than other antioxidants. Molecules of common antioxidants combine with free radicals and are converted into harmless molecules through a neutralization mechanism. However, unlike conventional antioxidants, natural fullerenes act as catalysts. Due to their shape of a soccer ball, molecules of natural fullerenes attract free radicals that attach to them and cover their entire surface. As soon as fullerene molecules are surrounded on all sides by a large number of free radicals, they are molecularly converted into neutral compounds.
